Berlin, December 5, 2016. New York has more than 10.000 startups. In its newest edition the magazine brings together 100 thrilling startups. The goal was to capture the diversity of the startup ecosystem in New York and demonstrate this to a fascinated audience that may find itself outside of the American metropolis. For the first time the Hundert left the safe and familiar surroundings of Europe, set sail, and risked the voyage across the pond. The team spent two months in the city that never sleeps, and rapidly got to know the tech community of New York: 60 days of “speed-dating” with 100 startups in 100 different locations.

An expert panel of judges

For the first time in the history of the Hundert, the 100 finalists were selected by an expert panel of judges, consisting of investors, established entrepreneurs, media representatives and other New York-insiders. Some notable names among the 40 judges are Arianna Huffington (Founder, The Huffington Post), Ben Lerer (Managing Partner, Lerer Hippeau Ventures), Philippe von Borries (Co-Founder and CEO, Refinery29), Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (Chairman, Spitzberg Partners) and Henry Blodget (Co-Founder and CEO, Business Insider).

An fascinating selection from 35 different industries

The results are as enticing and diverse as the city itself: a coffee table book with large-size photography of the stars and newcomers in the scene, with 35 industries being represented in the magazine. The topics range from artificial intelligence ( to the perfect mattress (Casper), generating bones from stem cells (Epibone) and free programming courses (Codecademy), as well as a health platform (Flatiron Health) and a subscription service for everything that will bring joy to your dog (Bark & Co).

The project received enormous encouragement from the participating startups, as even in New York the platform-idea behind the Hundert finds favour. Dennis R. Mortensen, Founder and CEO of described it as follows:

“Being in the Hundert is a great way to advertise the fact that Silicon Valley is not the only place to build a tech company. We are going after a huge opportunity, and we are doing so from New York City, by design! I hope we can inspire entrepreneurs all over the world.”

Dennis R. Mortensen, Founder and CEO of

Constantin Eis, Co-Founder and Global Managing Director of Casper, also sees their nomination as a great opportunity for the company:

“We feel highly honored to be part of this year’s the Hundert list. We do think that through the inclusion in the Hundert we have the ability to present Casper outside of the U.S. to a broader audience and clearly see the benefits of meeting also the other participants, who we get to know through the Hundert. Through our nomination we are able to create local networks in the European startup scene.”

Constantin Eis, Co-Founder and Global Managing Director

The founders were photographed in 100 different locations all over the city. In addition to tourist attractions such as Times Square or the One World Trade Center, the magazine also portrays the hidden gems, restaurants and hustle and bustle of the New York's streets.

The release of the magazine was celebrated twice this time around with a release party in New York and at Berlin's Ewerk.
